In 2018, we celebrated 100 years in business! That is definitely no ordinary anniversary. These days we’re doing flu vaccination, pet compounding, medication disposal and so much more that we didn’t when we first opened. We are pleased to be serving the Ballantyne community for the past 100 years and look forward to another 100 as the drug store that cares!
Walker’s Drug Store is excited to celebrate our 100th year in business. Located in the Ballantyne area of Charlotte, Walker Drug Store’s philosophy is to always put our customers first. We realize the importance of taking care of family and it starts with having the right resources for all things healthcare. Walker’s Drug Store was made to be that resource, because we understand that, at times, life can get a little crazy. We are there for you when it does. For us, getting a prescription filled is the beginning of a relationship, not the end of a transaction.

Walker’s Drug Store was founded in 1918 by Theodore A. Walker, RPh with the intention of providing personalized pharmaceutical service with emphasis on individual well-being. T.A. Walker lived most of his adult life as a leg amputee as a result of a terrible motorcycle accident. Nevertheless, this handicap did not deter T.A. Walker’s aspiration of opening his own independent pharmacy. Eighteen years later in 1936, Walker’s Drug Store was sold to Herman Klein and Elmer Reeves, RPh. This was followed 34 years later by another sale in 1970, this time to Dan Lemelin and A. Artemes. In the ensuing 29 years, they diligently continued to promote the long-standing belief that people are more important than pennies. In 1999, Artemes left the business and Dan Lemelin’s son, Jeff took his place. For years, this father-son duo carried on the Walker’s tradition of personalized service as the community around them continued to flourish. In 2005, Dan Lemelin officially “retired,” after more than 35 years in the business – a legacy that would be passed down to Nathan Ikner, RPh that same year.
Aside from our ability to fill any prescription, we provide custom prescription compounding for children and pets and free prescription delivery. At Walker’s Drug Store you’ll also find a full-service post office, a wide selection of medical supplies and over-the-counter medications, greeting cards, unique gifts and more. We are dedicated to helping our customers, post-hospital visit or doctor’s appointment, re-adjust to their lives at home. Whether it is our experts educating you on how to use your medication, to helping people understand their insurance policy, and accommodating them in that process, Walker’s Drug Store is there to help. While most companies simply reminisce on where they started and how they operated as compared to what they became years later, we are very proud of the fact that we have resisted change in the best interests of our customers. We still know our customers by name and would like to use this opportunity to thank all of our patrons for the support that has helped us to achieve this 100th year in the business milestone.
